About Us

I’m Julie Plummer, the proprietor of Kraftiz. I developed an early love for paper crafts. Our family is very crafty, my Mum being a dress maker, designer and teacher specializing in wedding dresses, and Dad always working with wood and chisels, so no chance of us being TV addicts or couch potato’s. I blame my mum totally for my passion for crafting; she took me to an exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham years ago, long before they had card craft events. It was knitting and sewing show and there was a few card making stands, so I spent all my pocket money little did I realize how this would influence my life, and let’s say the rest is history...

We worked from home for years in our spare room, spreading to the dining room, then the lounge and eventually taking over the whole house, with my Husband hinting at me on a regular basis to get some premises. The arrival of our first baby in 2003 intensified the search for a new studio and we moved to Ferrers Craft Centre. Even with the huge studio I have there, you will all know, as a crafters, that, as time goes on you fill every shelf and cupboard and Yes I have again run out of room, but I will be staying on here as its the most wonderful place to work, out in the countryside with only green fields to look at, we dodge the pheasants and cows as we drive up the long driveway to work, “dream job and location”. Come along and visit us even if it’s only for inspiration we would love to meet you.

I have two girls and Karli my 5 year old already wants her own shop to sell her cards in, (I told her to ask Dad). Already I'm having to keep my punches and scissors under lock and key as Lara’ not even 2 years old is a dab hand with them, I think I have some competition in the house, my Husband doesn’t stand a chance, however we all think secretly he enjoys it too, because if he’s left alone with the girls I come home to glue and glitter everywhere and the girls blame Daddy and whenever I go home with a new “toy” (new machines or techniques) he’s always over my shoulder looking and before you know it he’s got everything in front of him trying it out, (but don’t let on to his mates in the pub, its not cool).

My Mum and I initially started crafting for our own pleasure but it soon escalated to another level as friends and family provided us with orders for bespoke cards and crafts.

I was at the time a full time Financial Adviser but the crafting business expanded enough to allow me leave and fulfill my ambition of working full time as a crafter.

We have contracts to provide classes at Burton College and we give lectures and demonstrations to WI groups, Ladies groups, Sharpes Pottery Centre and Life Long seminars at our local brewery.

Our classes at the studio have proved very popular and six months ago we started providing private classes to groups at their own locations, i.e. the local pub at lunch time. The demand for this service has grown considerably since its inception.

Since starting work for Burton College I have taken my adult teaching exam and passed it in 2007.

For any further details on any of our services please contact Julie by e mail or telephone and I will be delighted to assist you in any way I can.
